Speech Therapists
Speech-therapists both identify and treat communication problems related to language and speech through the evaluation of hearing and speech/language test results, medical background information. With the appropriate diagnosis, they can plan treatment for speech, language, fluency, voice and swallowing disorders. Develop and implement treatment plans for problems such as stuttering, delayed language, swallowing disorders and or voice problems. Document the initial evaluation, treatment, progress and discharge of patients. Instruct patients in communication techniques and teach speech, muscle and breathing exercises. Specifically, Medical Social Workers (MSW) may:
- Collaborate with other professionals to evaluate patients' medical or physical condition and to assess client needs.
- Investigate child abuse or neglect cases and take authorized protective action when necessary.
